How A Random Shopping Trip Led To Me Having To Carry Out Simple Maintenance On My Girlfriend’s Motor Car, Including Purchasing And Fitting Replacement Wiper Blades
It was only a couple of weeks ago that the weather was dry and the days were prolonged and hot, but now the days are getting shorter and they generally seem to be overcast. It was on one of these overcast days that my girlfriend wanted to go shopping; normally I would have driven to the stores, but my vehicle was getting serviced at the dealers. On the way home from the stores, the grey skies began to darken and the heavens opened. My girlfriend turned on her windshield wipers and all that they did was smear the rain across the windshield. This was because her wiper blades had worn out at the time and she need to purchase a new set. As she is a bit younger than me, and I knew that they had added simple maintenance to the driving test now, I asked if she was going to purchase replacement wiper blades. She turned to me and said a helpful male would do that for her, so I got the hint that I would have to purchase some replacement wiper blades and fit them on her behalf. This is when I had to ask if she had checked the oil levels, water levels or even the tyre pressures since the last time the vehicle had been serviced, the answer was no and that was what thoughtful men were for, and at this point I became aware that I had a couple of checks to carry out on her vehicle.
When we arrived back from retail therapy it had stopped raining, so my girlfriend went inside to fix some food for us both and I turned to the vehicle and began work. I thought I better start by looking at the wiper blades on her vehicle makes site, as I could not obtain a precise oil level check from the vehicle until it had cooled down. The initial thing I did was measure the wiper blades so that I knew what size replacement wiper blades to get, and in doing this I found the wiper blades were not just destroyed but they had began to come apart and the frames had come away from the wiper blades in many places. After we had food I observed the vehicle and the correct oil that was essential, the vehicle had been sitting for roughly an hour now and I figured I could get a almost accurate level check from the engine oil, it was a bit on the low side but above the minimum. I did a visual check on the cooling water as the engine was still boiling, this could have meant that it was still pressurised and should not be opened. As a result, I could see the level on the blue plastic water bottle and it appeared to be within the recommended level. Then, I had a look at the tyres again, but it had to be a visual inspection as I had not got my pressure gauge or tread measure with me. After a look round all four tyres and giving them a gentle kick for good measure, I determined that they were in good shape and there was plenty oftread still on them.
My vehicle was ready to be picked up from its inspection now so we went to collect it, and on the journey home I stopped in the local motor parts store which convienently was just round the corner from the garage. After spending some time browsing all the replacement wiper blades I chose a pair of flat wiper blades. I had not seen this type before and they did look awesome and also because they were made from silicone, they came with a one-year guarantee. I also obtained a litre of engine oil, and when I got back to my girlfriends residence I secured the %KLINK3% and put a few glugs of oil in the engine, bringing it back up to the necessary level. I also made a mental note to get myself some flat wiper blades as I needed to replace my wiper blades and also that I would need to remember to check my girlfriends vehicle from time to time.
